History and Origins
Cagaita is native to the Brazilian Cerrado and was consumed by indigenous peoples. Its name comes from Tupi and means "fruit causing loose bowels". In the 20th century, it began to be cultivated in home orchards and is appreciated in sweets and juices.

Caution: eating too many Cagaitas can have a strong laxative effect! Also: the fruit is so delicate that it only lasts a few days after harvesting.
