Description

Fruit native to Mexico with thin green skin and creamy white flesh. The flavor resembles vanilla custard or peach. Also known as "Mexican Apple".

Benefits

High in Vitamin C and potassium. Contains compounds that may help lower blood pressure and aid sleep (in moderation).

History and Origins

White Sapote is native to Central Mexico. The Aztecs called it "cochitzapotl" (sleepy sapote) because they believed eating it induced sleep. It is botanically a citrus relative, despite the look!

Fun Facts

The seeds were historically used by Aztecs to induce sleep, but they are toxic in large quantities. The fruit is extremely fragile when ripe and bruises easily.
