Description

Also known as Tapereba or small Caja. Native to Brazil, found in the Amazon and Atlantic Forest. Small yellow fruit with a thin skin and aromatic, sweet-tart pulp.

History and Origins

Yellow Mombin is native to the Amazon and Northeast Brazil. Its Tupi name means "small Caja". It has been a staple for juice, ice cream, and liqueurs in rural communities for centuries.

Yellow Mombin is smaller and sweeter than the common Hog Plum! In Northeast Brazil, there are festivals celebrating its harvest. The fruit is even used to make artisanal vinegar.
