Description

Bright yellow fruit also known as "Eggfruit". The texture of the ripe pulp resembles a hard-boiled egg yolk, sweet and musky.

History and Origins

Canistel is native to Southern Mexico and Central America. It is often grown in home gardens but less common commercially due to its fragility when ripe.

It is called "Eggfruit" because the texture is exactly like a boiled egg yolk mixed with sugar! It makes excellent pies and milkshakes (similar to pumpkin pie flavor).
