History and Origins
Lychee originated in Southern China, cultivated for over 2,000 years. It was an imperial tribute fruit. In Brazil, production has grown significantly in the state of Sao Paulo, becoming a traditional Christmas fruit.
Fun Facts
Legend says an Emperor of the Tang Dynasty had fresh Lychees delivered by fast horses day and night to please his favorite concubine! The seed is not edible.
