Description

Close relative of the Jackfruit, but smaller and more aromatic. The fruit is oblong with yellowish-brown skin covered in small hexagonal bumps. The pulp is yellow or orange, sweet, fibrous, and surrounds edible seeds (when boiled).

Benefits

Rich in complex carbohydrates and dietary fiber. Contains B-complex vitamins, especially riboflavin and niacin. Seeds are rich in protein. Source of potassium for blood pressure regulation.

History and Origins

Cempedak is native to Southeast Asia, especially Malaysia and Indonesia. A close relative of the Jackfruit, it has been cultivated for centuries in the region and is a staple in local cuisine.

Cempedak has an intense aroma and sweet flavor! In Malaysia, it is common to deep-fry the pulp segments as a snack (Cempedak Fritters). The tree can reach up to 20 meters in height.
