History and Origins
Oiti is native to the Caatinga and Atlantic Forest of Northeast Brazil. It is famous not for the fruit, but for the tree, which provides excellent shade in hot cities like Rio de Janeiro and cities in the Northeast.
Fun Facts
Although the Oiti fruit is edible (tasting somewhat like a dry mango), it is often ignored on city streets! The kernel is rich in oil used in paints.
